Somewhere in Fantasyland: David Carradine is The Dark One, a warrior who sells himself to the
highest bidder. When he comes to a town where two clans fight over the possession of the town's only well, he sees a great opportunity to make
some quick buck by selling his services to both clans. But when his eyes
fall on the beatuiful (& topless) Maria Socas - a sorceress he once
served & who is now prisoner of Luke Askew, leader of one of the
clans - he changes his tactics & plays the 2 clans off against each
other, in the end ridding the town of both of them.
If you think, this story sounds suspiciously like Yojimbo, you
are of course right (didn't take a genius, though), as The Warrior
& the Sorceress is nothing but a remake of that film using some
fantasy trappings to be more in tone with the then-popular barbarian
movie-genre. It's still a very likeable movie, though, nicely
photographed & moving at a fast pace. And, one has to give a movie at
least some credit that has a guy - William Marin as clan leader - in it
who has a lizard-like being as his counsellor/lover. And of course, this
movie has a woman who runs around topless all the time for no other
reason than to ... well, show her lovely tits. |
