1900, a field somewhere in the USA: Lydia's (Amy Thomason) a devout
Christian, but she's also desperate enough so she decides to take her own
life. But Death (Romeo Goyette) or whatever you want to call him has other
plans with her and brings her to the 21st century and slowly lets it sink
in to her what man has become in the last 100+ years - and the picture she
gets to see is not very flattering ... In a way, A Woman
Under an Inferno Sky is a pretty abstract film as it doesn't really
explain much away, instead lets the viewer fill in the blanks, which is
made some easier by the use of some well-known stock footage of some
man-made disasters from the last 100 years - and in that, the film's
pretty much a meditation over the state of humankind, and really on how
little we as a collective have learned from past mistakes. And all of this
is rather beaufifully held together by both a moody directorial effort and
a very compelling central performance by Amy Thomasson. And as a whole,
this one's a pretty thoughtful and also very worthwhile watch for sure.
