According to reports, professional thief and master of disguise Evan
Robley (David Hedison) has entered American soil, and it doesn't take Dian
Prince (Lynda Carter) and Steve Trevor (Lyle Waggoner) long to figure out
where he's going to strike next, at the embassy of Kalakar, where the
recently widowed and embattled Queen (Juliet Mills) is staying, and of
course she has brought her crown jewels. So Diana finds emplay at the
embassy as maid and Steve poses as a businessman from Kalakar and is
promptly granted a room. Diana soon finds out that Robley stays at the
embassy posing as a distant relative of the deceased King, and he soon has
the queen eating out of her hand. Steve tries to lure Robley out of the
embassy so he can arrest him on American soil, but instead Robley manages
to overpower him, tie him up and convince the Queen that Steve is Robley.
Diana tries to warn the Queen, but is almost apprehended for being Steve's
accomplice, so she turns into Wonder Woman, and as her, she can convince
the Queen what's actually going on. But then the two have to realize the
crown jewels have already been stolen, and when Diana tracks down and
qzestions Robley, he assures her he hasn't stolen them, even under
influence of the lasso of truth. Fact is, he tried to steal them but they
were fakes - so somebody must have stolen them before him, and he suspects
the ambassador (John Colicos), who has always opposed the Queen. So now
it's up to Wonder Woman, Robley and Steve to steal the crown jewels back
our of the embassy's high secutiry vault - and of course they succeed, and
succeed in proving the ambassador's hand in the dirty game, and in the end
even Robley sees the error of his ways and charms the Queen into making
her her new ambassador.
Now I won't for one minute say this episode isn't naive, simplistic
even, a bit of a fairy tale view on foreign politics with plenty of cloak
and dagger and little substance. But that's exactly what makes this one a
rather charming piece of escapism, something that most certainly doesn't
stand the test of time but at the same time is a pretty entertaining time
capsule. By no means classic TV in the traditional sense of the word mind
you, just something that will put a smile on your face.
