The camera enters an apartment as if it was a crime scene, takes in the
scenery, finds irregularities, like some weird stains right beneath a hook
in the ceiling, something that might be bloodstains - and the more it
lingers on details in the apartment, the more fleshed out the picture of
the owner (whom we never see) becomes: Aparently he's an artist, and many
of his pictures show children - and frankly, some of the recurring motives
in these pictures start to paint a disturbing image of the artist ... and
then the camera comes upon one of the artist's comicbooks, which only
repeats these motives, maybe more directly - until everything is explained
on the last page, and it's sure to send a chill down your spine ... To
say that director René Wiesner has chosen an original directorial (and in
fact narrative) approach to his material would be putting it mildly: As
mentioned above, this short documentary resembles most of all the
investigation of a crime scene, it only shows its findings, doesn't
interpret them (until it shows the last page of the comicbook of course)
and lets the viewer make up one's own story - and the results are quite
fascinating (in a disturbing way due to the subject matter). Well worth a
look for sure.
