Evil alien Zeiram (Mizuho Yoshida) has landed on earth to wreak havoc,
but fortunately, there's intergalactic bounty hunter Iria (Yuko Moriyama),
who sends him to some kind of parallel pocket dimension that's devoid of
people to fight him. Unfortunately, two dim-witted eletricians (Kunihiro
Ida, Yukijiro Hotaru) get caught in the pocket dimension with her,
complicate the capture of the creature, and once Iria has captured Zeiram
and gotten back to real earth ahead of the others, the electricians
accidently free the alien again and now have to fight it on their own
because Iria is stuck in the real world for the longest time. At long last
though, she gets back to the pocket dimension and helps the electricians
defeat Zeiram, then she sneds them and the alien back - but Zeiram doesn't
stay down for long once in the real world and transforms in a giant
tentacled monster, and now Iria is stuck in the pocket dimension which is
rapidly disintegrating. Everything ends happily though ... If
you are still as much in touch with your inner child as me, you simply
want to like this film: It's got a grotesque alien, a female bounty hunter
in a sexy battle suit, and lots of chases, explosions and the like. So
why don't I like this movie then? Because it's on one hand too
straight-forward and lacks any kind of irony, and on the other the two
male leads, the electricians who are also supposed to provide the comic
relief, are rather obnoxious. Problem with them is that a) they are not
very funny, and b) their unfunny and unnecessary shenanigans often slow
down the story to a screeching halt. Sure, there are still some nice
effects in this one, and the whole thing has an almost irresisiable low
buidget charm, it's just a shame that none of this is really allowed to
come to life.
