Your upcoming movie Deep Shock - in a few words, what's it going to
be about?
The
story is about Sarah, a
twenty-six-year-old girl
who
can’t completely overcome the deaths of her grandfather and her older sister
Helen. The trauma and lack of sleep cause her to embark on a strange journey
of apparitions and murders, apparently caused by her mind...
With the film paying hommage to the giallo genre - what do you
find so appealing about these movies, some of your genre favourites, and
how closely will you stick to these movies of old in style and story? Being
Italian, I know the "giallo" genre very well... There are so
many titles I could mention... Now that this genre celebrates its 50
anniversary, I want to pay homage to it with my special and personal
tribute. I like the idea to recreate a certain genre of
cinema, which has almost disappeared, through the use of new technologies.
But Deep Shock, despite being a
tribute to the genre, is a completely independent movie. Other
sources of inspiration when conceiving Deep Shock? The
title of my short film is a clear reference to Deep
Red by Dario Argento and Shock
by Mario Bava [Mario Bava bio -
click here]. These are films that I took as a basis. Then, of course, in
Deep Shock there are many other
things... It is a pure “giallo” film that mixes thriller atmosphere
with extreme horror cinema elements. Furthermore, the plot offers the
audience the chance to identify and made to face different
challenges: rational vs. irrational, thriller vs. horror, life vs. death,
God vs. Evil… All of this taking into account characteristic elements of
the “giallo”.
Gialli
have been known to become quite gory at times - so how far do you plan to
go in that respect, and is there any line you refuse to cross? After
my last two films (The Puzzle
& The Sweet
Hand of the White
Rose), I felt the necessity to change, to create something strong and
impactful. Deep Shock is
definitely the most brutal and violent movie I’ve ever made... The story
will be a nightmare from the beginning to the end... As
far as I know, the film is still in preproduction - so how do you plan to
proceed? We
are currently looking into locations for shooting the movie and we have
also launched a crowdfunding campaign.
So
what can you tell us about your fundraiser for Deep Shock?
While financial
contributions of all sizes are much appreciated, I recognize that some
people may just not have the funds. But it doesn't mean they can't help.
You can also help by getting the word out about our campaign to your
friends, colleagues and loved ones via social media platforms.
If everyone is able to share this campaign with just a few people,
we feel confident that we can reach many, many people that may be
interested in donating to the cause. So I invite you to spread the word!
Like our Facebook page, where you can get up-to-date news on the
production. You will not be disappointed by the film!!!
How
much do you need to raise?
We
are trying to raise 3,000 Euros, which is traditionally a modest amount to
fund an entire short film. We need to pay all the equipment, provide food
and travel expenses, cover post-production costs, as well as pay for the
makeup/prosthetic effects that will be featured in the film. In return for
your contributions, we are offering some great incentives! The perks range
from little things like a Special Thanks on the Facebook page, all the way
up to producer credit on the film (as well as a wide variety of awesome
swag in between).

You
have a stellar cast lined up for this new film.
Yes,
I can say that I have formed a really great cast: Laura Toledo [Laura
Toledo interview - click here] (known for
her role in the Spanish TV series La
que se Avecina), Francesc Pagčs (Snow
White by Pablo Berger and Darkness
by Jaume Balagueró) [Frances
Pagčs interview - click here], Paco Roma (La Hijas de Danao by Fran
Kapilla) [Paco Roma interview -

in the TV series Amar en Tiempo Revueltos), Erica Prior (The
Second Name by Paco Plaza and The Birthday by Eugenio Mira) and Luis Fernández de Eribe (Bajo
un Manto de Estrellas by Óscar Parra de Carrizosa) One key element of at
least the best gialli out there is their music. So what can you tell us
about the musical score you intend to use? Like
I said before, Deep Shock is not
only a tribute, but it is an absolutely independent film. And about the
music, I have very clear ideas, but I can’t reveal anything yet... What
I can say is that I will not use sweet themes and childhood lullabies, as
in many past movies, but I aim for another style. What is certain is that
Giulio De Gaetano (who will compose the music) and Christian Valente
(sound designer) will have much work to do... but I’m sure they will be
able to do a great job!
Where
do you plan to film?
In
Malaga and the province. Any future projects beyond Deep Shock?
Right
now there is only Deep Shock! It
is a film in which I wasted a lot of time for the lack of professionalism
of some people and I absolutely have to recover the time lost! What comes
after that is yet to see, but now there is Deep
Shock and nothing else! Your/your
