It all starts with three youngsters performing a dark ritual in an
alledgedly haunted house, just for fun, really - until they're killed by a
masked person. Several years later, young and troubled Oscar (Stanley
Browning) finds the mask of the killer, puts it on, and kills his closet
lesbian psychiatrist (Erin Paterson). Again a few years later, Lila
(Prudence Cassar) is killed right outside a nightclub, right in front of
her girlfriend Angel (Lisa Fanto) and Angel's best friend Dario (Ethan
Mcerlean) - and the killer's wearing the same mask. Of course, the killer
gets away, and over the next few days several more people are killed, all
from the LGBTQ community, and several of them friends of Angel and Dario.
Of course, it doesn't take them long to figure they're more than likely
also on the killer's list, and in all probability rather high up. So they
try to turn tables and find out who the killer is, also with the help of a
detective (Hjalmar Marteinsson), who's not playing it entirely by the book
and might try to use them as bait. Thing is, the more they find out about
the killer, or rather the mask that's apparently cursed and turns its
wearer into a killer, the less they're convinced they'll be able to stop
him or her ...
Ok, this is a slasher movie that plays it pretty much
according to the book - but what makes the film special is that it
actually shines its light on social issues and integrates its LGBTQ-agenda
into the actual main plot of the movie rather beautifully. And while the
script does jump around a bit, it's actually intelligently written for a
movie of its ilk, while a genre savvy directorial effort and a relatable
ensemble cast carry the film nicely, making this pretty cool genre
entertainment.
