Julie (Tene Odzer) has been overseas for years, but now she has come
back to her old hometown with the intention to start a business. And her
childhood friend Vanessa (Angieleithia Carter) has offered her a room in
her and her husband David's (Omar Rogers) house until she can stand on her
own feet. So far so nice - there are just a few problems, and the fact
that Julie's secretly after David is only the least of them. Because
there's also the fact that she's a wanted con artist who has assumed quite
a few different identities over the years to pull through quite a few
embezzlement schemes, and the fact that she has the nasty habit to kill
lovers she feels jilted by - including one of David's best friends, Alan
(Ron Christopher). Julie's of course very good at never dropping her sweet
facade, but then one of Vanessa's friends, Reece (Jazmine Craib), finds
out the truth about her - and almost pays for it with her life. But once
Julie finds herself cornered, she becomes really dangerous ...
The Bad Visitor might not break any new ground when it
comes to the thriller genre, both narratively and visually, and truth to
be told it could have done with a higher budget to match its ambitions,
but that all said, it delivers solid thriller entertainment in a
refreshingly unpretentious way, and is carried by a bunch of relatable
performances that bring its story to life rather beautifully, which all
makes this into an enjoyable piece of genre cinema.
