In A Hard Day's Night, the Beatles (speaking voices by Paul
Frees and Lance Percival), while rehearsing in Transylvania, are
constantly pestered by their fans, so much so that they decide to do their
next rehearsal in a haunted castle. And there's all sorts of creatures in
the castle, from vampires to witches to Frankenstein's
monster to werewolves, ghosts and living skeletons. Only they all enjoy
the Beatles' music and break out in spontaneous dance. In I Want to
Hold Your Hands, the Beatles try to escape their fans on a cruise ship
and thus hop into a diving bell that takes him to the ocean's ground where
they meet a lovesick octopus. Now there's a bit of a money
grab, take the most successful band of its day and put them in an animated
kiddie TV show that's as simplistic in story as it's limited in animation,
with the Beatles' songs somehow shoehorned into some silly adventures the
band's having. Now I'll admit the show isn't totally devoid of some
vintage charm but really not worthy the band's reputation.
