Skinwalkers, people that can turn into creatures of all sorts and
sizes, and supposedly also into other people, are part of Navajo Nation
lore and thus geographically placed mostly in New Mexico. Depending on the
storyteller, skinwalking can be seen both as a curse and a blessing, and
the talent (if you want to call it that) can be achieved the easiest by
killing the one you love most. Based on this, documentarian Seth Breedlove
and his team have set out to the area to collect both eye witness and
hearsay reports - most of which seem to rather surprisingly revolve around
dogmen of some sort and much less on any other creature, which would
relate the Skinwalkers to the werewolves of the old world ... As
one has almost come to expect from Seth Breedlove/Small Town Monsters'
movies by now is that they're much less about proving or disproving the
existence of cryptozoological creatures but much more interested in
finding both the roots of legends as well as their relevance in modern
times, thus this movie once again puts its focus on oral history, and
while not all the stories told in this film might withstand scutiny, they
nevertheless tell a rather fascinating story of their own, making this a
very worthwhile documentary.
