Gustavo (Walter Kliche) and Ofelia (Susana Beltrán) are in love, but
her parents force her to marry Eduardo ...
So in Ofelia's and Eduardo's wedding night, Gustavo stops by, kills
Eduardo by sticking a knife through his neck, then he, to Ofelia's
surprise, turns out to be a vampire, and he bites her and turns her into a
vampire as well ...
100 years later: A septet of youngsters on holydays drive by Gustavo's
lodge when their car breaks down. Having nowhere else to spend the night,
they decide to bunk up in the house, which is thought to be deserted ...
but to their surprise, they seem to be expected by a butler who has
prepared them dinner before he vanishes ...
Later that night, one of the youngsters, Raul (Rolo Puente) meets
Ofelia, who is still as pretty as a hundred years ago, and before long,
the two have sex.
The next morning, the four girls of our young septet are gone. Later
that day, the remaining boys find one of the girls, Laura (Gloria Prat),
Raul's girlfriend, again, but she's in shock and they take her to the next
hospital. Having come to the end of his line, Raul calls in Laura's
brother Tito (Ricardo Bauleo) for help and advice.
Soon, in an open grave, another of the girls, Beba is found as well,
but she's in shock like Laura, and there's another thing, both women show
bitemarks on their necks ... but vampires in the 20th century ?
Eventually, after a few attempts of Gustavo to retrieve the girls,Tito
figures the root of all evil must be somewhere in the lodge and decides to
check it out. There, he meets Ofelia, who soon seduces him as well. Then
Ofelia sees the spirit of her husband Eduardo, who hands her a knife. She
goes to Gustavo's coffin and stabs him with the knife, then she stabs
herself ... and the vampire-threat is over.
Obejctively speaking, Blood of the Virgins is not a good film,
simple as that: The story is silly, but still has many plotholes and leaps
of logic, the finale is underwhelming, the direction is sloppy at best,
the actors are mediocre at best, the production values leave a lot to be
desired, and the lighting man must have slept on his job.
That all said, I really enjoyed Blood of the Virgins, it's a fun
piece of sexy 1960's vampire nonsense that somehow clicks despite its
overwhelming flaws. So no, it's not a good film, but if you like somewhat
trashy Sout American horror, it's good entertainment.
