Lou (Lou Pizarro) is a successful lawyer in Los Angeles - but he's also
so obese that he can't even climb a flight of stairs without getting out
of breath or sitting down without breaking the chair beneath him. So his
boss Mr. Peters (Eric Roberts) pairs him with smart-looking Andy (Johnny
Rey Diaz) for their next high profile case, despite the fact that Andy
doesn't know shit about law. And when they narrowly win what should have
been an open-and-shut case would Lou have conducted it, Andy's made senior
partner of the company instead of Lou. On top of that, Lou catches his
wife (Leni Rico) in bed with another man, which sends him on a downward
spiral that gets the people around him worried - so much so that his
daughter sets up a profile for him on a dating site for overweight singles
... Helena (Lucia Bloke) is a tour guide at some pyramids in Mexico who
just loves to eat - all the time. Which is why her boss fires her, and her
husband leaves her because of her obesity. Of course, that depresses her,
so her best friend Katie sets up a profile for her on a dating site for
overweight singles - and before you know it, she has found Lou as an ideal
match. Lou finds Helena nice enough to pay her a visit in Mexico, and of
course, initially they fall in love over their common interest, food. Soon
though they find they have more in common, and eventually they start a
business tailored to the needs of overweight tourists that's soon
thriving. However, eventually Helena starts to doubt Lou's feelings for
her are real and that he hasn't just taken her because in his obese state
he couldn't find anything better. So to prove his love to her, Lou starts
to lose weight. So things couldn't be better - only that both
Lou's wife and Mr. Peters want him back in LA, and they have a devious
plan to get him back ... What's really cool about this in all
rather sweet romantic comedy is that it totally defies today's obsession
with slenderness and gives overweight people a shot at winning while at
the same time keeping fat jokes to a minimum, and - despite many
exaggerations - lets its story develop in a rather natural manner, with
relatable characters and situations. And likeable leads really get you
invested in the movie, while a colourful and eccentric supporting cast see
that there's hardly ever a dull moment.
