Latino rappers Unodoz and J10 want to make it big in the hip hop game,
but to that end, they have to get their hands on the equipment of a
certain cocaine dealer (Aubrey Flowers) - or sothey figure -, and the only
way to get to him is with a truckload of cocaine. And the easiest way to
get one's hands on cocaine - in the eyes of our boys - is to kill all the
other cocaine dealers in the region and relieve them of their cocaine ...
which is exactly what our boys do. But once they have accomplished that
part of their mission, the cocaine dealer with the recording equipment
pulls a gun on them - and even after they have managed to overcome him,
they find themselves on the wrong side of a gun ... Interesting
but flawed is the best way to describe this film. On one hand, the
direction of Hip Hop Locos is great, using many an avantgarde
directorial technique (from shaky hand-camera to digitally altered images)
to make up for its lack of budget, plus the film is carried by simply
immaculate beats and music by Unodoz that often has an experimental edge
to it without simply being alienating. On the other hand though, the
film's plot as such has incredibly little substance, and story elements
are repeating itself even in its meagre 70 minute running time - so
despite everything else, the film gets dead boring after about a quarter
of an hour ... which is really a shame, because this would have deserved a
better screenplay to be more in tune with everything that is good about
the film.
