Working on her laptop at a café, interior designer Michelle (Alex
Essoe) is talked up by Linda (Precious Chong), a woman she seems to run
into pretty much constantly of late, and even though she's desperatele to
get rid of her to finish her work, Michelle lets Linda talk her into
accompanying her to her home - after all, she promises her a job. Linda
though soon proves overbearing, which is why Michelle looks for an
opportunity to slip out - and is hit over the head with a heavy object.
Coming to, Michelle finds herself locked in, and furthermore Linda has
administered her a truth drug - and yet still tries to uphold the
impression that she is just looking for a friend and is really only
misunderstood. Michelle makes attempt after attempt to escape, to little
avail, and eventually, when locking herself in a closet to escape Linda's
wrath, she finds out what all this is really about, that Linda is not just
a crazywoman but has a well laid-out plan that also involves Michelle's
husband, a plan with quite possibly lethal consequences ... Homewrecker
is mean, quite mad, and it gets under your skin - and it's fun, really, as
the script takes the humourous route into madness, assisted by a
directorial approach that despite everything happening doesn't go full
grim until the first act, and its lead actresses, who do take a
light-hearted approach to their roles - which actually makes the on-screen
goings-on only all that darker in hindsight. But if hindsight is 20/20, it
sure is a fun ride to get there!
