When both his brothers & his father are killed by a rival clan at
the wedding of that clan's daughter to one of the brothers, young Indra
takes it onto himself to become leader of the clan & of the village
they live in ...
28 years later, Shankar (Chiranjeevi), an ordinary cabdriver finds a
necklace around his neck that was lost by Pallavi (Sonali Bendre), the
gourvernors daughter who is unhappy with the man she is supposed to
marry & believes her necklace will lead to her real love. As it
turns out, Shankar is the uncle of her best friend at university,
Nandini, & so, with some trickery she soon manages to move into the
house of Shankar & his family, & she also witnesses him fixing
the marriage of his nephew & a higher class girl, which does impress
her. But then her father finds out that she stays with an ordinary
cabdriver & has her kidnapped. But Shankar is of course on the case,
& with the help of the stepfather of above mentioned nephew who is
now a dear friend of his, & who lets him use his helicopter, Shankar
manages to stop the train Pallavi's in & save her from what he
thinks bandits. Infuriated, the gouvernor soon arrives at his door with
a massive police force, but once he has laid eyes on Shankar, he
refrains frfom punishing the man & instead promises him his
daughter. Soon afterwards, Nandini is to marry her fiancé, but at the
wedding, a group of strangers turn up & claim the husband to be one
of their own (which he is), & he renounces the marriage, they all
leave Nandini broken hearted. Now the background of all this is told:
Shankar is indeed Indra (as the viewer might have guessed), once a
powerful village leader, but opposed by the clan of Shaukat Ali Khan
(Puneet Issar), who had actually killed his father in the prologue,
& after years in prison tried to do the same to Indra, only to be
killed himself instead. This of course further deepened the rift between
Indra & Shaukat's clan, so, when he saves the life of he son of
Veer, Shaukat's eldest son, Veer kills the boy, his own son, only to not
having to be grateful to Indra. Furthermore he throws the boys dead body
onto Indra's doorstep to show his disrespect, but Indra, always the good
guy, brings the body back to Veer's place to bury him properly. Sneha
(Aarti Agarwal), daughter of Shaukat's clan, is deeply impressed by
Indra's selfless act & immediately falls in love with him, from now
on trying to seduce him, but he proves reluctant. But then the poos
people of the village need a water reservoir, & the only land they
can build it on belongs to Shaukat's clan. As Indra is sooo good, he
offers them everything, & they take it in return for the land:
Indra's own land, his house & possession, his control of the village
- they even throw him out -, & Sneha also wants his hand in
matrimony. Indra agrees to everything once the reservoir is finished,
& it becomes clear he might even start to love Sneha, even though at
their engagement ceremony he is humiliated by all of Shaukat's clan but
Sneha. At the day of the wedding though, the car Indra was supposed to
be in (but wasn't) gets blown up, killing some of Indra's relatives,
& Indra sees red & in a frenzy ki8lls most of the clan (though
neither Sneha nor Veer, who really was behind all this). Shocked by his
own deed, he then leaves his village behind & starts a new life
somewhere else ... Back to the present, as Shaukat's clan plans its
final blow against Indra, as they still desperately try to trick &
kill him, but then both Sneha & Nandini's fiancé learn the truth
about what actually happened at the day of Indra's & Sneha's
proposed wedding & they change sides, finally helping Indra in
beating Shaukat's clan once & for all. Now the only problem Indra
is left with is whom to marry, Sneha or Pavalli ...
As is very often the case with Indian movies, this is a colourful mix
of romance, comedy & violent action, garnered with some musical
numbers & with a hero of almost mythical proportions, so nothing new
here, movies like this have an incredibly long history in Indian cinema.
Still, Indra does manage to provide some good - if mindless &
not very original - entertainment.
