Under a pretense, Gloria (Alba Gaia Bellugi) becomes famed writer
Marcel's (Benoît Poelvoorde) maid, handling his vast estate and becoming
good friends with Marcel's daughter Lucie (Janaina Halloy). For her, it's
a dream come true, as he's her favourite writer, and he's more than a
little flattered by her admiration - which before long has alarmbells
ringing with Marcel's wife Jeanne (Mélanie Doutey). And ring they should,
as it's not long before Gloria tries to seduce Marcel - at first
successfully, but when he ultimately pulls back she bites him, something
Marcel blames Lucie's dog for. Now Marcel would love to just fire Lucie,
but she has some letters in her possession, letters that his wife ought to
not read. And while Marcel's pretty much powerless, Gloria manipulates
little Lucie into hating her mother, and when she eventually tricks Jeanne
into firing her, she might have Lucie already in her corner - and that's
when she drops a bombshell to blow up the whole family ... A
slowburn but pretty tense psychological thriller - with a conclusion that
might come across as very far-fetched and overly constructed when given
second thought, but all credit goes to a tightly paced finale and a
directorial effort high on creeping suspense that everything makes perfect
sense at least while watching the film, and a strong ensemble carries the
film rather beautifully.
