Molly (Alyssa Beckman) and her son Tyler (David Polsky) move into a new
home that was an absolute steal ... and of course, it's not long before
they hear strange noises in the night, pretty much as if the house was
haunted. Then Molly even sees someone inside the house who doesn't belong
there, and she's convinced it was their creepy neighbour/gardener Red
(Matt Gulbranson). Meanwhile, contractor Bill finds a pile of human bones
somewhere between the walls in the basement, but he doesn't tell Molly or
Tyler, only urges them to stay out of the basement. Eventually of course,
the horror inside shows itself, a very creepy woman (Susan Chase) with an
almost ghost-like appearance - but real enough to be hit with a frying pan
- who goes after Molly and Tyler with less than benign intentions, and to
their horror she seems to know the place much better than they do ... The
Inside sure is a well-enough made little chiller, it's atmospheric and
creepy, and the acting is solid - it's just that the plot feels completely
generic. In fact it has more than a bit in common with Within
of a couple of years back, and given that that movie felt maybe even more
generic, it's more than possible that none of the people involved have
ever seen that movie and just came to similar conclusions independently -
that's how generic this is. That aside, The Inside's still a good
spook show, it just follows the genre blueprint a bit too closely,
completely lacks deviations.
