For high school student Sam (Tyler Kipp), basketball is everything, and
she's really good at it, too ... but she struggles with the concept of
time, which enrages her coach (Ariane M. Reinhart) more and more, to a
point where she keeps Sam on the bench during a game and the like - all of
which crushes Sam, to a point where she eventually has a fall-out with her
coach and quits the team, feeling totally let down by her. Thing is, her
coach actually cares and despite being overly harsh to Sam, she actually
wants her to succeed - but when she visits Sam at home to talk things over
... she's just about in time to save her from a suicide attempt ... Ultimately,
Inspired is a very up-lifting movie, but truth to be told, it's
probably better not to watch it when you're feeling down, as there are a
lot of tears to be shed - but that said, Inspired is not a
tearjerker, the tragic events are essential to the story, a story that
doesn't present one with an easy way out, but plays out its drama to the
full. and thanks to a subtle directorial effort and a strong central cast,
the movie does manage to come into its own.
