Martin (Andres Bagg), who has recently lost both his wife (to another
man) and his job, picks up a phonecall between a hooker and her client -
and the next day, the hooker is found dead ... which is quite a shock to
Martin, because now he's sure the killer must be a tenant of the building
he lives in. A few days later, Martin picks up another call, the guy
talking to another prostitute. Now Martin tries everything in his power to
prevent the murder ... but ultimately fails, and the woman is murdered as
well - and not only that, the killer, who seems to long have found out
about Martin, has dropped the corpse off in his apartment, forcing Martin to
get rid of it to not be accused of the murder he has been trying to
prevent. Eventually, Martin turns to his best friend Laura (Virginia
Lustig) - who's secretly in love with him - for help, and she assists him in
his investigations ... until she finds out there haven't been any
prostitutes murdered in months, which means everything's just happening in
Martin's head. Martin takes her to dig up the corpse he has hidden to
prove her wrong, but even the corpse is gone, just the sheet it was
covered with is still there. Ultimately, Laura finds out Martin is madder
than anyone would have thought, his phone has been disconnected for months
(so he couldn't have picked up any calls), he keeps the severed heads of
his wife and her lover in his fridge (which I think means the whole
prostitute-murders-story was just his guilt attacking his subconscious),
and now he carries a knife, stabbing to death anyone who he thinks has
wronged him, starting with Laura ... What starts out as a
conventional serialkiller-thriller (with a slightly improbable setup)
eventually tries to run off in a totally different direction when the
whole story is turned on its head ... which could have been a clever twist
had it come as a complete surprise - but anyone who has seen a few too
many of these serialkiller films can easily read the signs that point into
the very direction the film is going to take. Add to this an only slightly
inspired directorial effort and an annoyingly overacting lead and you've
got ... actually not a total mess, just an average thriller that might be
entertaining for its running time's worth but that's forgotten about as
quickly ...
