Mary (Corrinne Mica) is a public defender and apparently quite good at
her job - and this frustrates her because she ever so often gets the
"wrong ones" off the hook. And then, she has a terrible accident
that puts her in a coma, with her life hanging on a thin thread - much to
the shock and distress of her husband Joey (Rhys Gillett), and who at her
sickbed promises he'll do anything to save her. Unfortunately, Lou the
Devil (Trevor Van Uden) listens in, and he's quickly to propose a deal to
Joey: Joey is to kill three persons, absolute scumbags the world's better
without anyways, to send their souls to hell, and in turn, Lou will see to
it that God Jovi (Victoria Strange) restores Mary to health, as he's in a
constant play of Jenga for the fate of humankind with her. Reluctantly,
Joey agrees, as while he might not be a killer but a gardener, through
Mary's files he has easy access to all sorts of scumbags, and his first
victim is the very rapist (Jared Lucier) whom Mary had acquitted on a
technicality just minutes before her accident - though his death doesn't
count because he dies from a heart attack before Joey can even lay hands
on him. Which is soon starting to become a problem as time is running out
for Mary, and there's a police detective (Jessica Duclos) on Joey's case
... The subject matter of Jovi & Lou might be a dead
serious one, but this is actually a pretty funny movie - for one there's
much situational comedy in there, much derived from the mere premise of a
rather innocent person trying to become a killer, but there's also many
sight gags, from God being a platinum blond bombshell to Jesus (Maurice
Tillmon) and Moses (Albi Neziri) fighting over food at a buffet. And a
very clever script sees to it that the film never veers off into the
moronic, while the actors are quite the right mix of those playing it
straight and those who play for laughs. And all of this results in a very
fun ride for sure.
