Vanessa (Jodie Sweetin) has been tirelessly looking for Mister Right
for years now - but whoever she dates, she always finds something wrong
with the guy in question, so much so that her best friends Donna (Danielle
Perez) and Miles (Alex Mapa) think she's afraid to commit. Of course
Vanessa want to prove them wrong, but then the Corona virus strikes,
forcing everybody indoors to live their lives on their own. But Vanessa
doesn't give up on her quest and tries online dating - and after a few
misfires finds Brandon (David Lipper), who might not look as hot as his
profile pic, but he proves to be a very nice, funny, down-to-earth guy,
and she really starts to like him - and vice versa. So much so in fact
that eventually Vanessa introduces him to Donna and Miles - via Zoom of
course, as the lockdown is still in place. And Donna and Miles get along
with Brandon rather nicely as well, so that's always a good sign. Month
after month of lockdown pass, and Vanessa and Brandon have grown closer
and closer over time - and still haven't met. But they're already talking
about having sex with one another ... when during a video call Vanessa
catches an attractive woman in Brandon's apartment. And she finds out
Brandon hasn't been totally honest about a few other things as well. It
breaks her heart - but that said, maybe there's another explanation for
things, and maybe she's more shallow than she'd ever admit to herself ... It's
pretty much the romantic comedy for the Corona era, but at the same time a
lively enough movie still, not only considering much of the film is made
up of Zoom calls. But fortunately, the film doesn't just relie on webcall
aesthetics, something that has been a bit done to death of late, but goes
for actual camerawork. And the humour that's at times topical at times
just sweet comes across as pretty funny, while Jodie Sweetin and David
Lipper actually manage to create some chemistry between each other without
ever being in the same shot (safe for the last scene that is). So in all,
good fun for sure.
