Armand (Joe Taslim) and his pregnant girlfriend Sandra (Dominique)
return to Indonesia from abroad to live with his family, but they are met
with a cold reception. Especially Armand's wheelchair-bound grandfather
(H.I.M.Damsyik) openly shows his conempt towards Armand's bride-to-be. As
if that wasn't bad enough though, Sandra soon also starts seeing ghosts at
the family home, ghosts that have to do something with a family secret
according to which all the wives of the family members are dying early
deaths in accidents. Sandra isn't one to give up without a fight though,
and thus she starts investigating ... and slowly uncovers grandfather's
own love-story which led to him marrying an already-dead woman - which led
to all the wives of his sons to die early and become ghosts. Determined
to save herself and her unborn baby, Sandra pushes grandfather into the
family mansion's pool, effectively drowning him - which seems to have the
desired effect, since the ghostly apparitions are gone, and the family
tensions gradually ease up. It's only when Sandra finally gives birth that
the spirits return to claim her as one of theirs ... Eerie and rather
well-written horror mystery that suffers a bit from its (deliberate) slow
pace and from its lack of actual shocks. Yet in terms of atmosphere and
weirdness, carried by a decent directorial effort, the film pretty much
makes up for its shortcomings.
