Stephane (Lucas Chartier-Dessert) couldn't be happier, as he thinks he
has found the dream home for himself and Tara (Helena Marie), but when he
tells her, she starts to get all evasive, almost as if she didn't want to
move in with him. But she does a viewing of the house on her own - and
loves it ... until she sees it's snowing down the staircase, and when she
climbs up, she finds ... Glenn (Ivan Peric), her late boyfriend, covered
in snow, just like she imagines he has died when he went on a climbing
trip and had a fatal accident. About which she feels guilty about as she
was supposed to go with him. Sure it all happened years ago, and time to
let go - but will Tara be able to? A Late Thaw is a very
touching little film that's intentionally slow-moving and tries and
succeeds to tell much of Tara's inner turmoil through its imagery rather
than explaining her emotions away in dialogue - which is kept to give the
viewer the factual background of the story. Now add to that a very decent
cast, and you've got yourself a really nice short.
