A psychotherapist (who remains out of frame throughout) uses rather
unconventional and provocative methods to treat his patients, methods that
include confronting them with their own flaws and fears. And really, he
gets his patients to open up. What he fails to admit to himself though,
even if it's pointed out by his therapist (Anna McNiven) is that his
methods might do more harm than good, as his methods, as unobstrusive as
they seem, actually contain traces of brainwashing and the therapist
trying to impose his values on others, plus his advice might have
dangerous consequences ... A film that has its story unfold
from a very unusual perspective - about 90% of it take place in front of a
static camera on the therapist's couch - and an equally unusual buildup,
as the film has several of the therapist's cases unfold pretty much at
once, with the topics often crossing over from one narrative thread into
the next, with at times very different results. And while there's a
certain kind of unease that accompanies the film from early on, what with
the therapist's very unusual methods, its ending still comes as a shock.
What makes this film though besides its clever structure is its very solid
castm who keep the whole thing pleasantly grounded and make this into a
rather tight thriller.
