Rich (Yang Mingyi) is a ruthless businessman who just found out that a
school he delivers food for might be relocated which might cost him a job
- which is why he invides director Wu (Jia Fengzhu) to a fancy dinner in a
posh hotel suite, and tries to "persuade" him to reconsider
relocation, flanked by the school's principal (Yang Man), reporter Michael
(Ray Wang), and pretty news anchor Helen (Zhang E'Naan), who's there for
"more" than just a story, and the party seems to be going really
well if it wasn't for the interruptions by Rich's clumsy driver Jack
(Martin Yang), who's as honest as Rich is crooked - oh yeah, and then
there's a zombie outbreak, and suddenly the whole group is caught up in
the suite, as this is a place they can hold - but the food and drinks
they're having won't last them long. So eventually they have to make a
break for it, get into a car and try to make it to the next army base -
and not everyone makes it to the car even, but while Rich or Wu show a
dangerous "everyone for himself" mentality, Jack and Helen show
actual courage and even manage to save a little girl (Chen Qianhua) on the
way. To spend the night on the way to the army base, they coop up at an
industrial complex owned by director Wu - thing is, the guards at that
place led by Greg (Simpson Tang) have their own agenda, and it's not a
nice one. And while the place might be zombie free and very secure, it's
now humans versus humans, and the odds are grim indeed ... Ok,
this movie might not exactly reinventing the wheel when it comes to all
things zombie, but it is a fresh take on a genre gone slightly stale,
thanks to a very energetic directorial effort, storytelling that takes
everything with a grain of salt, interesting characters (even if some of
them come off as caricatures rather), and a very fast pace that doesn't
give you enough time to actually remember where you might have seen some
of the things on-screen before. Fun, really!
