In this big-screen adaptation of the popular and long-running Filipino TV-series Lovingly Yours,
Helen,
host Helen Vela presents us with four stories:
- Akin Ang Walang
Diyos: Little Idda (Julie Vega) behaves more and more
strangely, and when she at one point violently attacks her mother
(Coney Reyes), she is tied to her bed as a consequence - but her
granny shows pity with her and frees her again. Not a good idea,
because things get even more out of hand after this, and it soon turns
out that Idda is not just an unruly kid but actually possessed by a
demon. Eventually, mom brings in an exorcist to save both her daughter
and the rest of the family.
- Anak Lamang Nang
Isilang: Roel (Ariosto Reyes jr) and Arlene (Vivian Foz)
are college sweethearts, and she sticks with him no matter what. Thing
is, he is suffering from epileptic seizures that get more and more out
of control, so much so that he fears he's endangering her - and thus
he kills himself for her sake.
- Candy: Mick (Johnny Wilson) is what you could call a model
family man, his daughter Candy (Janice de Belen) loves him, he's a
good husband to his wife (Alicia Alonzo), and he turns down his
secretary's (Carmi Martin) very direct advances. But then Candy
overhears a conversation in which Mick admits to being gay, which
shatters her world, and before you know it, she has spilled the beans
to her mother. Ultimately though, mom actually makes Candy forgive her
dad ...
- Nang Maupos
Ang Kandila: One day, when walking home, a man finds a
baby in a basket at the side of the street, and he decides to keep it,
even though he already has two kids of his own and his wife strongly
opposes his idea. Years later: The man's family has more or less
fallen apart, which culminates in his wife cheating on him and the two
of them separating. Eventually, everybody seems to leave the man and
he becomes a drunk, but the foundling from years ago, Jinky (Sheryl
Cruz), still sticks with him no matter what (and there's lot of what). It all culminates in a
musical finale.
Rather weak anthology movie that lacks a common theme. The film's
stories seem to come from pretty much everywhere (even genre-wise) and what exactly these
four stories have to do with each other to be featured in the same movie never becomes apparent. On top of
that, the stories are rather clichéed and not particularly well-told, each of them feels like
an overlong set-up for a way too short and way too obvious finale, and there
are almost no twists and turns in any of them. Add to this a very average
cast and a very flat directorial effort and you are left with rather
little ...
