Despite never actually been baptized, Natalia (Sofia Del Tuffo) had
spent the last few years in a monastery aspiring to be a nun. But then she
learned her dad (Vando Villamil) was on the verge of dying, and she was
let go of the nunnery to look after him - where she reunited with her
sister Angela (Malena Sánchez) again for the first time in ages, and
Angela is the polar opposite of her, a promiscuous party girl with a
predilection for alcohol and drugs and a "bad boy" boyfriend
(Francisco Donovan). However, the two of them come together with one
another's terms and decide to visit a shaman together along with a few of
their friends who might either help their father or more likely help them
come over their upcoming loss. And this is where things start to go wrong,
as the drugs the shaman gives them for their revelation accidently invite
Lucifer into their world who kills most of their friends, and Natalia
learns she's actually demon spawn which makes her a prime target for
Lucifer, and the only one she can rely on now is elderly nun Sister
Gregoria (Marta Lubos) and the very man she needs to fear the most is Abel
(Pedro Merlo), a guy who she has fallen in love with who has been
possessed for all his life - and this is only the starting point for
things falling out of hand ...
Luciferina is pretty much a "what the
fuck"-movie - in the best possible of ways! Basically, the film
starts out along teen slasher lines, with a bunch of youngsters going
where they shouldn't go, and bad things happen ... but then it takes
things to a whole other level, call it metaphysical, mythical or religious
or whatever, which makes this a very trippy experience all of its own,
thanks not only to the story that gets weirder by the minute but also to
the trippy imagery and the performances that are nevertheless very much on
point no matter how odd things get. That said, not a film for everyone,
but if you can open your mind enough to enjoy the slightly grotesque, then
it's definitely one for you.
