Our hero (Kevin Cline) tries to make the best of his life, he works out
to better himself physically, he takes good care of the family dog who's
about to be put down for health reasons, and he just met lovely Jill (Rose
Sengenberger), a girl he has fallen in love with at first sight and who
has given him her phone number, so things could be great. Then though he's
fired from his job at the grocery he's working at the butcher at, and when
he wants to talk it over with his boss (Sam Sweis) after hours, he doesn't
find him there ... but lets himself into the shop and steals all the meat.
You see, our hero wants to be a good man, but he's got a short fuse, and
he's got the ability to set off the fuse himself. Now that he's got all
the food in his apartment, he doesn't really know what to do with it, as
it probably would last him a lifetime if it wouldn't go off before then.
At the suggestion of a homeless weirdo, he then decides to give the meat
away for free in a poor neighbourhood, but that sounds easier than it is,
as too many people think it's just a scam and stuff ... and then our hero
runs into Walrus' (Reggie Winn) gang, who not only take all his meat but
also his cellphone and chase him off. Somehow though, out hero gets the
hands on a couple of handguns and then challenges one of Walrus gang
(Eldridge Shannon) for a good old-fashioned duel ... and the poor guy
almost shits himself. Thing is, out hero's gun doesn't go off during the
duel, allowing his opponent to get away, and noe he's properly pissed and
goes totally berzerk, leaving a trail of destruction in his way ... Meathhead
Goes Hog Wild is quite an odd but entirely interesting sort of movie:
It starts out pretty much along the lines of an indie mumblecore comedy,
with seemingly random scenes of the protagonist's life following one
another, some funny, some weird, some even slightly disturbing ... until
the story moves more and more towards the insane, and weirdly enough these
"random" scenes then make much more sense in retrospect - and
ultimately the whole thing amounts to a rather insane psycho drama - with
its touches of dark humour mind you, and in the process to quite a
fascinating movie.
