Somewhere in space, the future: When the Iowa receives a distress call
from the Artemis, a one-of-a-kind spaceship, they respond of course, and
soon enough young crewmembers Creed (Jim Ewald) and Varisa (Gina Martino)
are teleported over to the ship for the necessary repairs. But while
they're progressing steadily, enemy forces from the mysterious company
Cybertech find their way onto the ship as
well and want to hijack her. And despite their best efforts to duck the
enemy's potshots and sabotaging their efforts to get the ship, but will
that be enough? Meanwhile, Creed and Varisa's commanders, married couple
James (James Panetta) and Juraina (Elizabeth Campbell) teleport down onto
the next planet to find an enemy base there, which would suggest the
Artemis was locked into a dead trap and then used as bait for the Iowa ...
but unfortunately, the enemy's less than keen on James and Juraina having
worked that out ... True, taken by its own value, the plot of Hijack
Part 1 is a bit hard to follow, mainly because it throws the viewer
into a very complex sci-fi world and doesn't take the time to explain
everything from the get-go ... but in the long run that might also be a
good thing, as the whole thing's very entertainingly told, full of banter
that's immediately understandable, likeable and fun performances, and it's
carried light-footedly and at a steady pace. And by the by, the viewer
begins to understand the allegiances and such in the film as well ... For
those interested, Mercs airs on the Space Opera Channel on MaddyGTV/ROKU:
