To go to the wedding of Adam's secret love Betty Ann, shy & virginal
Adam (Eric Jungmann) & outgoing loudmouthed Harley (Justin Urich) have to
cross theAmerican Southwest, when they suddenly realize someone's following
them through all the lonesome roads. it's not just anyone, it's a
monstertruck, bent on crushing them under its wheels. At first it just drives
them off the road, though, before dieappearing again, but at later ccasions it
always seems closer to them as they would expect, appearing suddenly out of the
blue, threatening them before disappearing again.
& when they finally think they have shaken the truck off its trail &
spend the night in a cheap motel, they wake up in the middle of the night, with
some roadkill lovingly placed in their bed..
Panic-striken they flee, only to find lovely Sarah (Aimee Brooks), a
hitchhiker, in their car, & she manages to lighten things up a bit since
they both fall for her, & when she helps Adam lose his virginity (& you
might guess how)´, everything seems fine & dandy again ... until they have
to witness the monstertruck cruch a man before their very eyes.
In panic, they flee further, but by now the truck is really bent obn
crushing them, & it finally flattens their car, with Adam, Harley &
Sarah only just escaping to a spot where the truck can'T reach them ...
The truck can't, the driver, Bob (Michael Bailey Smith), a giant brute with
a horribly stitched up face, can, & he soon kills Harley & drags Sarah
to his house.
& Adam, who comes after her to save her, is in for a terrible surprise,
as Sarah turns out to actually be the sister of Bob, who is in league with him
& they want Adam's body to replace that of their other brother Fred (Joe
Goodrich), whose belly was blown away by some horrible accident, & who is
kept alive by black magic (as Sarah turns out to be a witch). Soon Adam is tied
to a crude operating table, & there's nothing nice in store for hi
But Adam has always been pedantic enough pedantic enough to carry anything
from an army knife to razor blades in his pockets, & so he manages to free
himself, kill Sarah & Fred & poke out Bob's eyes with a pencil (!). In
the end though it's Harley, who has mysteriously survived his own death after
all, who runs Bob over with his own monstertruck ...
As you might have guessed, this movie borrows from Duel (1971), Hitcher
(1986) & Texas Chainsaw
Massacre (1974) in equal parts, with a little magic thrown in & a
monstertruck tacvked on for novelty value. Surprisingly though, Monster Man
turns out to be entertaining nevertheless, as it doesn't take it self too
seriously, uses its gore effects for the story's sake instead of to show off,
& has some characters that are convincing enough to care for them.
