Justin (Ben Richardson), a young film professor, is faced with a bit of
a dilemma on take your kid to work day, as he quite simply doesn't
have any children of his own - so he asks his sister (Karen Garlitz) to
help out and lend him her young daughter Sammy (Marlee Burns) for the day.
He wants to properly impress the girl - after all, what's not exciting
about teaching film? Only, much of his day consists of grading papers,
copying papers, teaching filmmaking in theory, and helping his students
with trivial tasks on set - in other words, trivial things. But what's
trivial for one person might still be an adventure for a kid ...
Above all, Niece Day is a very sweet short: Sure, it
might not have the most exciting of premises, but then again the film has
lots of heart, is totally relatable and at the same time pretty amusing.
And a suitably subtle directorial effort paired with very natural
performances make the whole thing flow rather beautifully, and make this
roughly 12 minutes well spent.
