Fian (Patrick O'Brien) is a down on his luck psychic investigator who
has seen better days for sure and these days has to take a fair amount of
drugs to on one hand establish a psychic link at all, on the other to even
be able to deal with his visions - and his visions get the worst this time
around, when he's asked to investigate a murder scene and is sent on a
trip towards gruesomeness where a vampiric couple not only kills but
really slaughters their victims. Problem is, the visions don't let go of
him once the trip is over, and the couple might actually be after him -
and when he picks up a girl (Mariel McAllan) whose boyfriend has actually
been one of the victims of the couple, he might really bite off more than
he can chew on ... Now don't be fooled, even if above synopsis
reads very straight-forward, Night Kaleidoscope isn't an easy film
to follow, it more often than not puts style over structure, tells its
story in an associative rather than straight-forward way, and loves to
keep the audience as much in the dark as its protagonist. The result might
be taxing for some, but if one's willing to give oneself over to
experiencing this movie rather than understanding it on a purely rational
level and don't mind the occasional grotesquery and gruesomeness, one
might come out of it quite satisfied ... and a little disturbed maybe ;)
