After a night of heavy drinking, Reggie (Robert Griffith) is rather
surprised to find an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus in his flat. Opening it,
he expects to find a slowly rotting mummy inside, but is surprised to find
the very much alive Princess Raviola (Marian Olive) inside instead. He
immediately falls in love, despite being engaged to Paula (Elsa Tee), and
the two go out the next night, visiting the best places all over London
... and constantly bumping into Paula's brother Billy (Billy 'Uke' Scott),
who for some reason has no problem at all with his future brother in law
dating a woman other than his sister. After having been to all the best
clubs the town has to offer, Princess Raviola transports herself and
Reggie back to ancient Egypt for some more entertainment - which apart
from the costumes resembles modern London's to a T ... heck they even bump
into Billy again ... ... and then Reggie wakes up next to an empty
bottle of Whiskey, and it was all just a dream ... A Night
of Magic, conceived as a peace of irreverent escapism in war-torn
times, is actually a pretty dull revue movie, because basically, the
narrative build-up is weak for even a movie of this kind, it's supposed to
be a comedy but there's rarely a punchline, the music is all too
cut-from-the-same-cloth, the dance routines are very basic and not all
that well executed, and it seriously lacks the production values a movie
of this ilk does need.
