Angela (Allison Tyler) and Brian (Zack Stewart) initially meet at a
self-help group because
her mother and his father have committed suicide - but they quickly fall
in love with each other. Now that's cute, but it would be cuter still if
all of their friends would not commit suicide one after the other, and
they would not find out that all of these suicides (including those of
their parents) were actually murders, and would receive videotapes
suggesting the killer's now after them. Angela and Brian try to find out
what's going on, but they soon enough find themselves on the run from an
apparently crazy killer, and eventually end up tied up in some basement
soaked in petrol, and the killer turns out to be Angela's chemistry
teacher (Christopher Kadish), whose daughter her mom and his dad, both
doctors, failed to save ... and now he wants to have his revenge. Sure
enough though, Angela and Brian manage to turn the tide in the finale and
kill him who wanted to kill them. You certainly have to give
this film some credit for trying - for trying to tell a story that's more
interesting than your usual teenie slasher, that includes a few bizarre,
macabre details (like the killer filming his victims before killing them,
then sending the tapes to his next victims and the like) and gives the
story a little bit of depth. However, the further this film progresses,
the more it throws all the interesting stuff out of the window for a more
streamlined serialkiller plot, and in the end, the killer is exactly the
one person you would have guessed it to be since his first appearance in
the film, just because he was the least suspicious. And once Christoppher
Kadish is revealed to be the killer, the problem of the film is that he
simply isn't all that menacing - and I don't mean in stature but
acting-wise - and his background story seems to be nothing more than teen
slasher 101. Well, at least Allison Tyler is good enough a leading lady to
save the film from sinking, and there are a few nice details (see above),
but these are not good enough reasons to watch the film, either ...
