Kayla (Elizabeth), Dustin (Mills) and Rob (Grant) run an internet show
dedicated to debunk urban legends - which mostly means they try out
rituals that have made it to internet fame to basically prove that nothin
happens performing them - which is kind of the problem with their show,
since their whole point is to debunk means all their rituals lack pay-off.
And thus they have to make the set-up more and more exciting to
compensate. Like for their latest show when they have to lock Kayla into
the (out-of-order) freezer of an abandoned insane asylum for an hour at
witching hour to see if it affects the ouija board in the next room.
Actually the freezer was supposed to be sealed with her blood, but she
chickened out there, so Dustin used his own blood instead. But of course,
despite all the effort, the ouija board remains mum - another
anticlimactic climax. Later thst night though, Dustin returns to the
freezer as he has forgotten one of his cameras - and is chased away by a
being that's not wuite human ... and even not quite living. During the
next shoots, Dustin becomes more and more erratic, and often acts like an
asshole for no apparent reason - and also he starts seeing who- or
whatever it was everywhere. But not only that, that being starts to
torment him, and ultimately doesn't want only him but his partners in
crime as well ... Now found footage movies these days are
usually a dime a dozen, and a few too many seem like cop-outs for not
really putting the work in to make something cinematic. Ouija Blood
Ritual is not one of these movies, as it does put in an effort to
create the proper atmosphere (actually, that's part of what the characters
are doing on screen), has its suspense and jump scares rather than just
relying on shaky camerawork, its story boasts proper build-up, and it
features a pretty cool monster to go with everything. A rather cool
spooker, really.
