Late one night, a hooded figure (Scott Geiter), looking more dead than
alive, stumbles into Papa Primo's (Andrew Confair) pizza place, to
stutteringly order pizza with extra peperoni ... and brains - which for
Papa Primo means he has not passed the test and just identified himself as
a zombie ... because you have to know here, the zombie apocalypse has been
happening, and the streets are infested with the undead - but that's no
reason for Papa Primo not to open his pizza place regardless for a few
extra bucks ... and even bullets, which have become a parallel currency
these days. But Papa Primo soon has a bigger problem than just a zombie in
his shop - and that's his delivery boy (Kevin Lepka) constantly losing his
shit when attacked by zombies and wasting shitloads of bullets on them
instead of taking proper aim. But that's one issue that can be dealt with
- even if it means throwing the kid into cold water, figuratively speaking
... Papa Primo's Apocalypse Pizza is above all else ...
fun! Sure, it might not completely revolutionize the zombie genre, but it
gets a good hold of it, manages to tell a highly original and rather
hilarious story, which is of course also helped by a bunch of colourful
characters embodied by a very able cast, and a directorial effort that's
restrained enough to not just go for cheap jokes but give the story
(little as there is) room to breathe and not push the audience right onto
each plotpoint but give it time to develop, revealing many details only
eventually. And all of this makes it so much - and I've said it above
already - fun to watch!
