There's one thing psychotherapist Dr Redding (Lynn Lowry) is not
exactly fond of, and that's her patients showing up at her home, and
outside of office hours at that ... but that's exactly what Kenny (Randy
Frank) does - and since he seems to be out of his mind with fear, she
agrees to treat him anyways. Apparently he sees some creatures in his
peripheral view, and since Dr Redding is presently writing an article
about this anyways, she feels it's an issue easy enough to take care of -
and of course, she doesn't believe for one minute that those
"creatures" are real ... but doing a session of exposure therapy
with Kenny to prove there's nothing to fear simply doesn't have the
desired effect ... The Peripheral is quite simply an
entertaining and loveable horror short. Sure, it's story might not exactly
break new ground and might be more than a little reminiscent of the Twilight
Zone - but then again, who didn't love that series? Plus the
whole thing is really effectively told, is short enough to get the full
effect out of its story, the direction is subtle yet atmospheric, the
performances of the two leads are top notch - and wait until you see the
(old school stop motion) creatures ... A great piece of short horror,
really!
