After their parents have died unnatural (or even supernatural) deaths,
three kids move in with their grandma, and they soon make friends with her
lodger too, even if he seems to know a bit too much about the death of
their parents. Especially Mina, the eldest of the kids, falls for the
lodger, and even ditches her boyfriend in his favour, and when he saves
the whole family from a demonic attack, everyone's eating out of his
hands. But of course, the lodger is actually in league with evil spirits,
had his hands in the killing of the kids' parents, and needs Mina as his
virgin sacrifice - but in the end he can be killed by a shaman who has
been on his trail for months now. The finale of this film, a
mix of sloppily done martial arts and very basic CGI effects, is so cheap
and looks so retro it's almost endearing (in a trashy sort of way), but
unfortunately, the film attached to it is not of the same camp quality, it's just a badly written
piece of horror cinema that features way too much set-up for the little
story it's actually telling and hardly manages to uphold audience interest.
Add to that an almost complete absence of scares and shocks and a lazy
directorial effort, and you're left with a movie you really don't need to
see ...
