Young Kacie (Emily Fuller) is having her first period ... and frankly,
she couldn't have it in a worse enviroment: Her sister Layla (Cassie
Dugger) is a constantly high hooker, her pimp Larry Lecher (Cory Simmons)
is known for forcing girls into prostitution, one of his henchmen (Anthony
Burke) is openly pedophile, another (Andrew Nentwig) is a drugdealer
without a conscience (and of course the supplier of her sister) ... so
it's unlikely for Kacie to get any sympathy regarding her situation in an
enviroment just as this. Being left on her own with her pain, Kacie just
does what anyone in her situation would do: Raid the drug stash of her
sister, and wouldn't you know it, she finds a half empty bottle of Wonky,
the drug to end all drugs, and drinks it in one go, not reading the
warning label ("don't take it during PMS") ... and then she
turns into a literal monster. Thing is, pimp daddy Larry can't afford a
monster in his territory, let alone a monster that might distract his top
girl Layla, so he sends his men after Kacie, one after the other - but
Kacie doesn't only look like a monster, her new appearance has given her
superhuman strength ... I'm sure that after reading the title
of this movie, let alone my synopsis, you didn't exactly expect a classic
of subtle horror filmmaking - because PMS: Pre-teen Monster Syndrome
most certainly isn't - but of course it doesn't try to be, it's
intentionally and self-consciously trashy, it's loud, not all the jokes
are sophisticated ... and it's loads of fun, really, as its low budget
approach coupled with its simplistic genre plot, its decently paced
approach and its willingness to just entertain make this one ... well, not
a classic, but a pretty good party movie. So best grab a beer or two for
this one!
