It all begins rather harmlessly, with a sextet of teens reciting some
supernatural incantations just for fun at a party, and at the same party,
Vonny and Marvel fall in love. That's a bad thing though, because a) the
incantations really did awaken some evil spirits, and b) Vonny and
Marvel's families have been at war since the Dutch colonialist era, and
this war has been fought on the supernatural level, with Vonny's family
being represented by the Kuntilanak (sort of ghostly seductresses) while
the Pocong (hopping corpses tied into their shrouds) fight on Marvel's
side. The creatures from both sides of course freak out our teenagers
and everyone involved with them, and Vonny's mother is even killed in the
process, but neither Vonny nor Marvel have any idea what's going on, until
they become obsessed by their families' creatures and are actually at each
other's throat - when a friend of theirs finds an engagement ring Marvel
was going to give to Vonny, throws it into the mix (figuratively
speaking), and ... well, love conquers everything, what did you think. Weak
teen horror with a boringly executed run-of-the-mill plot, pretty
disappointing shock sequences and a way too underwhelming and too cheesy
finale to make up for even some of the film's faults. Plus, despite the
sensationalist title, the Kuntilanak and the Pocong do very little fighting
against each other, which would have been a laugh at least. Not worth your
time or money by a longshot.
