Benny (Joshua Paffel), Raven's (Daniel Harris) best friend and
favourite barman, persuades Raven to accompany him to the graveyard to
visit his father's (Kevin Croak) grave - even if Raven's less than
ecstatic about that. You see, under normal circumstances, Raven manages to
block out the voices of the dead by drinking irresponsibly large
quantities of alcohol - or at least almost. But he knows on a graveyard,
there are too many spirits around for even lots of alcohol to work, and
thus he feels surrounded on cemeteries - and one of the spirits is Benny's
father, seeking closure just like his son does ... After having
shown Benny in previous episodes, Mourning in the Cemetery is the
story that ties the character into the series properly, and with an ending
that makes one expect to see more of him - and make one looking forward to
it, too, as he and Raven prove to be a potent team. Taken by its own terms
too, this story is a pretty solid and well-told excursion into human
suffering and letting go delivered by way of the supernatural, and carried
by interesting characters played by solid actors. Totally worth your
while!
