Dr. Oliver (Keith Kjornes) has developed a matter transmitter for the
army, top secretly of course, but when he's to present his device to army
brass (Alan York, Rocky Patterson), it turns out what while the thing
works in principle, it turns its test subject into a woman, and a rather
pretty one at that. Dr. Oliver's army superiors are rather mad about that,
but the doctor's main rival at the research lab, Dr. Fields (Randy Clover)
sees this as an opportunity to take over the matter transmitter project
and merge it with his own invention, a brainwashing device - and now he
turns all women on the pland, including Dr. Oliver's assistant Dr. Hardy
(TJ Myers) into absolutely breathtaking nymphomaniacs. Now this proves to
be a bit of a problem of course, and it doesn't fix any of the issues the
army has with the matter transmitter, but then there's an even bigger
problem: Once these artificially created nymphomaniacs reach orgasm, they
turn into walking alligators. Through all of this, Dr. Oliver tries to
work on a fix for all the problems - but with gatorbabes running around
and Fields actively sabotaging his efforts, that doesn't prove to be too
easy ... Genre faves Gunnar Hansen and Brinke Stevens play scientist in
the film's framing story. Now as you might have already guessed
it from my synopsis, Repligator is a pretty silly movie - but the
good kind of silly at that, as the film clearly doesn't it take itself at
all seriously, while actors and director are still playing it straight,
mostly, and no matter how far-fetched the plot gets, it never goes for
purely moronic or just for laughs, it still delivers a story firmly placed
within the genre - which is exactly why this film is quite as funny as it
is. Sure, this might not exactly be the Citizen Kane of genre
comedy, but should go down very easy at a party with a few beers! PS:
Extra kudos for naming two of the lead characters Stanley Oliver and
Laurel Hardy.
