Gina (Rachel Grubb) and Jill (Brooke Lemke) are roommates, are both
single and unemployed, and they are both upset because someone is stealing
their newspaper from their doormat every day - but that's about where
their similarities end: While Gina is outspoken and in love with a poster
of the Joker
from The Dark Knight which she talks to occasionally and takes
(imagined) advice from, Jill is the quiet one who thinks she's the only
sane person in the world - but then she sees conspiracy in pretty much
everything and thinks she's in a TV-reality-show, a TV-format she's
addicted to by the way. Eventually, Jill thinks the only way to help
Gina - who doesn't even think she needs help - would be to let her do an
on-camera confessional, just like on the shows, but Gina just makes fun of
her in the process, after which Jill hooks Gina up with a mime (after all,
he sort of looks like the Joker)
and sells all her Batman
collectibles. Eventually, the whole situation drives Gina so over the
edge that she chooses to have revenge on the newspaper thief as an outlet
- revenge Joker-style,
which means she dresses up in a silly clown outfit and walks over to the
appartment she suspectsw of stealing all the newspapers - only to
find out that the neighbour actually is the Joker
... A fun little series that despite all its over-the-top story
elements that stretch realism beyond breaking point captures the spirit of
its subject matter (cohabitation) quite beautifully, including all the
little psychogames, the competition over useless things, the exaggerated
touchiness over little things, the light hint of paranoia and the like.
You probably need to have had a roommate for a while to really capture the
humour of this web series, but if you had, you will find this one quite
accurate.
