The murder of a pilot (Eddie Fetherstone) who has been smuggling
Chinamen into the USA from Mexico has brought a certain gambling den to
the attention of the police, and a police raid on that place almost
dragged society lady Viola (Esther Ralston), daughter of a prominent judge
(Oscar Apfel) into a scandal - but she is saved by a certain King
Moss (Sidney Blackmer), who claims to be a curio collector. However, this
has caught the attention of cop Baxter (Regis Toomey), who soon
investigates Moss's organisation - without any success though. Thing is,
Moss really is the head of the human trafficking organisation, and is in
desperate need of a pilot - and now Baxter figures to apply for the job in
disguise ... but his cover is blown all too soon, and he is saved by his
partner (J.Farrell MacDonald) only in the nick of time. Viola though is
a licensed pilot as well, and so Moss figures to make her ship his cargo
under a pretense - and she falls for it, too. Only too late does she
realize that she has been had, and by that time Baxter in his police plane
almost shoots her out of the air. The whole story culminates in an aerial
battle between Baxter and Moss, at the end of which Baxter shoots the
baddie out of the air. And as a thank you, he gets the girl, naturally. Pretty
much your typical B-movie, not offering too much new or exciting plotwise,
but for the most part kept alive by one of the better B-casts ... and at
least the aerial finale is vilmed in quite a breathtaking way, which in
itself is almost worth the price of admission.
