Leigh (Vinessa Shaw) has a problem: Every man finds her irresistibly
attractive - which doesn't sound like a problem but it is, as men don't
even see who she really is, just the person they want to undyingly fall in
love with, and they all do, to the end that that "love" starts
to cloud their judgment, to the point when it starts to get dangerous to
Leigh and themselves both. Thus Leigh has long chosen to live as a recluse
in the woods ... One day, Guy (Robert Kazinsky) finds his way onto
Leigh's premises - sure, she had the whole thing set up with cameras and
alarms, but if a storm knocks out the power supply, there's little to be
done. Unexpectedly, Guy doesn't find her irresistible - attractive and
nice, yes, but by no means a goddess ... which is totally new to Leigh, so
before long she, dying for some down-to-earth human company, invites him
in to fix her whole alarm system the storm has damaged badly, and he, a
drifter in need of a breather, gladly accepts. Gradually, the two of them
come to know, like each other, fall in love even, and she more and more
opens up about herself, that there's some pheromone in her smell that
makes her such a knock-out - but since Guy has lost his sense of smell, he
just sees her as she is, a rather nice woman. Thing is, she sells her
essence (which is in her blood) to a perfume manufacturer - a company that
wants more and is also into chemical weapons. So they are eager to get to
her, and it seems Guy is caught between the lines - but there's more to
him that meets the eye ... A horror film disguised as a love
story - or is it the other way around? Whichever way, the film really gets
across the horror of being loved by everybody through no fault of oneself
- but despite the occasional cliché it doesn't sell the premise in a
tearjerker sort of way with a deus-ex-machina ending, but prestents us
with a rather effective little thriller that ia greatly built up and hides
its fair share of surprises along the way. And thans to a subtle
directorial effort and a main cast with real chemistry between one
another, this movie really comes to life!
