It's Halloween night, and Alison (Cerina Vincent) has decided to spend
the evening on her own, something she now starts to regret, doing an
on-cam chat with with her best friend Jenna (Annika Marks) ... but then,
behind Jenna's back she sees somebody in her apartment where there
shouldn't be any - and when Jenna goes looking, there is a sudden
(off-screen) scream ... and Jenna never returns. Alison immediately calls
the police, but is so freaked out that she fails to make much sense on the
phone, plus through all of this whoever-it-is sends her photos of Jenna's
severed bodyparts and the like ... and then he sends her a picture
indicating he has just found out where she lives. Alison is on the verge
of a nervous breakdown (and can you blame her) but manages to pull herself
together, arm herself, and ... well, sometimes the best intentions do not
lead to the best results. Skypemare is, above everything
else, fun, as at its mere eight minute running time it manages to cover
the scope of its horror/thriller situation quite well - and to rather
creepy results - while at the same time telling an original story with a
surprise twist at the end. And add to that a pair of quite competent
actresses, and you've got a nice short piece of genre entertainment.
