Brothers Nigel (Darren McAree) and Job (Matthew Sandland) were two
devoted members of Brother Steve's (Anthony Miles) suicide cult. But when
all the cult members including Brother Steve take poison to go straight to
heaven as a comet is to destroy the earth in a fortnight, Nigel and Job
decide to just not take the poison and live the last two weeks on earth to
the fullest - after all, God wouldn't mind if they arrived two weeks after
the others, now would he? So the brothers compile a list of things to do
in the last couple of weeks, a list that includes buying a camper van and
going to Scotland. Once in Scotland, they meet all sorts of weirdos,
including a vampire, and are only just saved by vampire hunter Reg (George
Newton). However, when they try to report this encounter, nobody seems to
believe them. Reg however wants to recruit them as his helpers, but for
the longest time they fail to take the whole thing seriously, until two
girls (Sophie Elsby, Katie Thomson) they've gotten friendly with at the
camp site disappear, in all probability abducted by vampires, and now they
see themselves pretty much forced to step up their game to face the head
vampore (Chris Lines), with only Reg and two vampire hunters (Dan Smith,
Marnix Van Der Kraan) who do more harm than good on their side ... Oh,
and the comet to destroy earth? It just never comes ... It's
pretty much a buddy comedy like Dumb and Dumber, with two loveable
idiots ultimately coming out on top, crossed with British humour and
transplanted into a horror scenario - and it works, too, as despite all
their shortcomings, Nigel and Job are portrayed (both in terms of script
and acting) likeable enough to care about them, and the many jokes on
their account never stand in the way of the story. On top of that,
writer/director John Williams proves himself to be genre-savvy enough for
the horror aspects of the story to work out very nicely. And the result
proves to be a genre comedy with heart - and also plenty to laugh about,
in other words a pretty nice ride.
