Having a small dispute during a hike, Nanimi and her sister Masato
somehow slide down an inclination and suddenly find themselves facing a
skeleton. Since Masato has hurt her leg, Nanimi goes for help, but when
she returns, Masato is gone. Only days later does she return, and when she
does, she's a changed woman. Furthermore, murders happen around her, so
much so that Nanimi sees herself forced to tie Masato up - but Masato always
manages to escape anyhow. Somehow, the cops have turned their attention towards
the two sisters concerning the murders, but who- (or what-)ever it is
quickly takes care of them. Did I mention yet Nanimi is starting to see
ghosts? Eventually, Nanimi stumbles upon a newspaper-report about a
guy who slit his wife's throat from ear to ear, which turned her
homicidal, and somehow, she sees this and her sister's odd state connected
- so the two girls visit the slit-mouthed woman's house, and before you
know it, Masato is possessed by the slit-mouthed woman and kills Nanimi
... I don't know why this movie is called Slit-Mouthed Woman
0: The Beginning, because it has nothing to do with either part
1 or part 2 of
the series (and each of these films features its own origin story
anyways), and it doesn't even feature much of a coherent origin story. That
said though, this would not automatically mean that Slit-Mouthed Woman
0: The Beginning is a bad film - but it is nevertheless anyways, it's nothing more
than a confusing, convoluted and way too slow-moving ghost story that
makes little sense, features way too few shocks, and is almost devoid of
atmosphere. Not that the previous Slit-Mouthed Woman-movies were all that
good, but this one's definitely the worst of the bunch.
