Having only just escaped an abusive relationship, influencer Mari
(Iabou Windimere) has moved into a smart house controlled by security
system Cassandra (voiced by Brinke Stevens), as her ex Shawn (Joe Kidd) is
still at large and maybe even after her. But so far, he has only attacked
her in her nightmares - something even Cassandra couldn't help but
noticing, but talking to her security system about her nightmares freaks
Mari out a bit. Thing is, Cassandra takes things into her own hands more
and more, and the way she acts are soon no longer in Mari's interest. And
eventually, Cassandra locks Mari into her house, forces her to read a
manifesto on her channel to a possible audience of half a million, at the
end of which Mari's to kill herself. Now the only one who can help Mari
now is the man who created Cassandra, Mari's own dad Cordell (Tom Cherry),
but Cordell is under house arrest for hacking into the Pentagon, isn't
allowed access to the internet, a computer or a cellphone ... A
tight little thriller that exploits the latent technophobia in pretty much
all of us to the fullest, but has created a believable story around it to
keep things relatable - that way of course only augmenting the film's
effect. The directorial effort meanwhile is suitably subtle, allowing the
film's story to unfold and giving the cast space to develop their
characters, while the small ensemble do their best to bring their
characters across as likeable, making this a pretty cool piece of genre
entertainment.
