Miya (Trisha Molina) and Cass (Eric Conelly) have just moved into a new
place, and even though Miya had fallen in love with the house initially,
she's freaked out by it from day one ... or rather night one, as she
starts to seeing ghosts. Thing is, Cass is totally not understanding her
feelings, figuring seeing spirits just has to do with her traditional
Chinese upbringing and is therefore just some sort of neglectable Eastern
superstition, and Miya will agree with him as long as he makes this point
often enough and bluntly enough. Thing is, he might not be right, and the
forces beyond his comprehension might have a thing or two coming for him
...
Now truth to be told, The Spirit Room is a film that's a bit on
the blunt side as its cultural clash isn't all that subtly painted - in
fact quite the opposite, it stands out a bit too much. At the same time
though, the whole thing really looks amazing, camerawork and editing are
just really spot on making it atmospheric as heck, and Trisha Molina's
central performance is a true standout. So not a masterpiece maybe, but
definitely worth watching!
